ANIMAE: THE SOURCE

A values-based imaginal card deck for reflection, conversation, and creative exploration.

Something in you already knows. This work is the art of remembering. Through image, story, and the quiet that opens when the inner noise settles.

Sometimes the quietest questions hold the deepest answers.

Animae is a deck of 48 cards designed to help people slow down and reflect on what matters most — whether alone, with family, or in community. Each card pairs a single core value with an original abstract image, hand-printed via traditional collagraphy, inviting thoughtful conversation, personal reflection, and creative exploration.

Many people find that working with the cards feels calming, grounding, and quietly surprising — a way into insight without pressure.

More than a Deck

While Animae is simple to use, it was created from a deeper practice of working with image, symbol, and meaning. The abstract imagery allows insight to emerge without instruction, inviting a slower, more reflective way of engaging with values and inner life. Many people are surprised by what arises when they sit with an image — how something quiet but clarifying begins to take shape.

Animae grew directly out of my coaching practice. If the deck resonates, working together one-on-one goes deeper still.

“The value you most need is the value seeking you.”

Ways People Use Animae

  • Personal reflection or journaling

  • Conversation starter with family, friends, or groups

  • In coaching or therapy sessions

  • In classrooms, workshops, or community settings

  • As a creative prompt for writing or art

Because the process is image-based, it often feels calming and stress-reducing, helping people access insight without pressure or instruction.

Why Images Matter

Images invite curiosity rather than answers. They help bypass overthinking and allow meaning to emerge in a more natural, often grounding way. This is what makes Animae flexible across ages, backgrounds, and settings — there is no one correct way to use it, and no experience required.

Who this Speaks to

Animae speaks to anyone who believes that slowing down is not a luxury but a necessity — people seeking calm and clarity, parents and grandparents wanting meaningful conversations, coaches and therapists looking for a gentle and evocative prompt, and writers or artists exploring their inner experience.

About the Deck

Each of the 48 cards is rooted in symbolic art, hand-crafted via traditional printmaking — collagraphy, oil ink, and printmaking paper — giving each value a unique visual and tactile presence. Use intuition: reflect on how each symbol, color, and texture resonates with you. Let the abstract image activate memory, emotion, or insight before the mind steps in.

The deck includes:

  • 48 symbolic cards printed on luxe sateen-finish stock (2.75" x 4.75")

  • A guidance booklet with 8 creative exercises, from values identification to intuitive card draws

  • A sturdy 2-piece keepsake box, perfect for storage or gifting

  • A digital PDF version available separately, convenient for coaches, therapists, and teachers

The Art Behind the Deck

Each image began as an intuited design and hand-cut collagraph plate, inked with oil-based inks and printed on printmaking paper using an etching press, before being digitized. The textures, symbols, and abstract forms were intentionally crafted to evoke the subconscious — allowing each viewer to project their own meaning and insight.

The artwork itself becomes part of the intuition process.

What does this shape evoke in you? What memory does this texture stir? What feeling arises before the mind steps in?

Meet the Creator

Elizabeth Lorayne is an artist, printmaker, ICF-credentialed coach, and award-winning author whose work has always lived at the intersection of image, story, and inner life.

Animae: The Source grew out of years of collagraph printmaking and depth-oriented coaching practice. During and after the pandemic, Elizabeth built a printmaking studio from scratch and began the slow, deliberate work of hand-cutting plates, inking them by hand, and pulling each image through an etching press. The deck that emerged was not designed so much as discovered — each image shaped by the same question that shapes her coaching: what lies beneath the surface, and how do we find our way back to it?

Every image in the deck was made by hand and by heart. That is what you hold when you hold Animae.
